Plustek Unveils Roadmap for Distribution and Sales Strategies

By Archana Venkatraman, CRN, July 16 2007, 1200 hrs

Completing a quarter as country manager at Plustek India, Ankur Sarkar is on a distribution tie-up spree and has channel profitability primary in his mind for the second  half of 2007. In addition, he has classified Plustek business into different segments for focused channel sales.

The imaging and communications solutions vendor is scouting for distributors in India for each of its business level- scanners, volume and communications business. “This month we partnered Agra-based OMR Solutions for exclusive national distribution of Plustek Document scanner product range,” said Sarkar. He said that the company considers the forte of each player in the market and leverage its potential to grab the market share.

Sarkar was appointed in March 2007 to drive Indian operations, develop channel and support network in tandem with distributors in India. The vendor is segregating the business lines and is getting more aggressive over its new product launches in its document scanner segment. “We are appointing regional distributors in each of the four zones in India for the Volume Product Business line by this quarter,” said Sarkar. This apart, the vendor is also lining up a national distributor for its Communications Products Business line.
To develop business in India, Plustek is inducting 5 -6 retail partners each in the 4 major metros and even Bangalore.

Aiming higher channel profitability to leverage the strategic Indian markets, Sarkar said, “We want our channels to focus on new verticals including the retail, education and IT Solutions companies. For this we are giving a cutting edge on price points, profit schemes and updated technology for channel to benefit.” To ensure better channel business, the vendor will provide increased onsite warranty over its scanners than its competitors and provide them training to tap the SME and the Soho segments in the upcountry market.
The vendor has also planned for effective sales and marketing activities with its existing national distributor- Fortune Marketing, according to Sarkar.

The second half of 2007 will witness several technology/ product exhibitions for the channels, tradeshows, road shows and spate of new imaging and document solutions products from Plustek.

Recently, a partner told me that a leading vendor has sent letters to several of its partners stating that they would like to audit the partners’ business. When the partner refused, he was sent a notice by the vendor’s legal department stating that the partner’s contract made it mandatory for him to comply with the vendor’s demand
