AMI Aims Big

 By Ramdas S

Storage vendor American Megatrends India (AMI) intends to grow its India business three-fold over the next 12 months and is planning an aggressive channel engagement strategy to do so.

The company is planning to rope in more distributors apart from the existing one, the Chennai-based StoreIT, and thus improve the availability and channel coverage of its products.

“We are presently in discussions with three more national distributors, and will ink a deal with any two of them shortly. Our aim is to increase our partner base from 60 to 200,” disclosed Sridharan Mani, Managing Director, AMI.

Though it has been in the Indian market for less than two years, AMI says it has witnessed exponential growth. “Contrary to popular perception, many organizations are keen to invest in white-box storage solutions because these offer more customization options and also because of a significant price-performance advantage over branded OEM offerings,” said Sridharan. “In fact, we have had many wins in high-spending verticals such as BFSI, ITES, government and media.”

AMI has a range of IP-based IP-SAN and NAS appliances ranging from 1TB to 128TB.

Explained Sridharan: “At the core of our offerings is StorTrends, the storage management platform that has built-in WAN acceleration and our unique redirect on write technology which reduces data write times by half. It also boasts of a number of enterprise features such as auto-provisioning and advanced snapshots which reduce the loss of data even in case the system crashes.”

According to Sridharan, the channel thrust will be to enroll and enable resellers who are focused on solutions building and not just box selling. “We want partners who are more technology-savvy and understand the value unified NAS and SAN storage boxes provide to customers,” said Sridharan.

India is a strategic market for AMI. The company’s global R&D center in Chennai, which has 300 employees, is dedicated to R&D for its entire storage portfolio.

So does that mean, the implementation does not require any Hardware and Stortrends does this internally?

Read the fine print

Recently, a partner told me that a leading vendor has sent letters to several of its partners stating that they would like to audit the partners’ business. When the partner refused, he was sent a notice by the vendor’s legal department stating that the partner’s contract made it mandatory for him to comply with the vendor’s demand
