Today, organisations need to tackle a variety of application-layer attacks such as cross-site scripting (XSS), SQL injection, and cookie poisoning, among others, to secure multiple endpoints round the clock. As a result of hybrid work models gaining prominence, cloud application security threats, lack of VPN usage, poor encryption of data, and misconfigurations are exposing the organization’s network to increased security risks.

With 86% of the data breaches occurring at the app level, it is no surprise that the application security market is projected to grow to $12.9 billion by 2025. This is proof that organizations want to strengthen their application ecosystem, by ensuring their applications are fast, secure, and available for a seamless and secure customer experience.

Dhananjay Ganjoo, Managing Director for India and South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) at F5, “As leaders in the application security space, our responsibility is to create a safe and secure environment for businesses and people to function. Organizations embracing hybrid work models require security models that consider human and machine users in the form of workloads, devices, and scripts. IP-based controls, primarily securing management consoles, end up being disabled because they interfere with remote access. To protect against hijacking and unauthorized use from any originating location requires organizations to move beyond IP addresses and deploy a more robust, identity-based set of access control. If identity-centric security policies are not implemented consistently across all app environments, compromised systems might attempt to exploit resources from the safety of the corporate network, negatively impacting an organization’s growth.”

Owing to the rising number of security threat incidents in the country, there’s been an increasing focus on security. However, there is still a lot to be achieved in this area. Implementing cloud web application firewall (WAF), Web App and API Protection (WAAP) technologies while building the application architecture can help safeguard the future of adaptive applications and digital experiences.

“As app environments evolve and expand, it further illustrates the importance of an overarching app security strategy that implements a multi-layered approach and a more coordinated security effort across all teams that play a part in the app lifecycle,” he said.

The recently launched F5 Distributed Cloud WAAP (Web Application and API Protection) can address all the security concerns of an app-centric world through end-to-end observability. It further provides organizations with valuable insights and telemetry from a centralized interface across their distributed app infrastructure. F5 is now set to empower Indian customers to have differentiated digital experiences for their end customers, which is vital in today’s dynamic & ever-changing landscape.
